We all get into music when we're quite young. Depending on our current social groups, we'll be exposed to different types of music - some of it good, some of it, on reflection, was a little bit suspect.
I was 'lucky' enough to do the majority of my growing up through the 80's. My true obsession with music started in the late 80's & then continued into the more dodgy 90's.
One artist that really triggered a lot of my passion was Jean Michel Jarre. While I regard him as being reasonably credible, others may not entirely agree - labeling him as cheesey.
What a lot of people may not realize is that Jean Michel Jarre heavily influenced modern electronic music - especially the dance scene. You can still listen to many a contemporary tune & recognize artistic nods to his work.
Personally I find his earlier work, and some of his more recent work much better than the less credible middle section - the late 80's & early 90's in particular!
Jarre created a love of electronic music, synths & ultimately modern programmed music. Many modern acts owe a lot to his early beginnings & have a lot to thank him for.
If you haven't listened to any Jean Michel Jarre - I would suggest listening to:
Equinoxe - 1978
Magnetic Fields - 1981
Rendez-Vous - 1986
Many will say that Oxygene (1976) was his best work. I don't agree - it is probably his best known, but not necessarily his best work. I regard the other albums that i've mentioned above as classics - they are well worth a listen!
More recently, there has been a remastered version of Oxygene, a remix album which is worth a listen & 'Teo & Tea'. Teo & Tea is a different approach to most of his other albums - but is again worth a listen.
I find his work very good for working to - it creates a good creative brain space & I would thoroughly recommend having a listen!
